Marine electronics reviews, internet boating, trips, and technology projects on the water.
My internet setup rarely stays the same for more than a few weeks, but the core of the setup says pretty constant. I update things every year depending on new modems and technology.

This year, I've added some new Peplink products to the mix, and have ended up with 2x LTE connections, 2x WiFi as WAN connections, 2x internal access points, and a few other things. I've been pleased with the system so far, although I would prefer that this was one box or device with some modularity....

Rendezvous Internet Setup for 2020

Rendezvous Internet Setup for 2020
I am constantly making updates and changes to my internet system on board Rendezvous, but I do usually settle on a stable system that I go back to when I am not testing, or when I have guests aboard. This is that system for 2020.

Hauled out...

I've been in the boat yard the last several weeks. Rendezvous developed some vibrations the last couple of months that I tried to resolve in-water, but have had to haul out to examine things closer.

So far it's good news, and I hope to be back underway in a day or so. While out, I've had the bottom prepped and painted, running gear cleaned and painted, hull buffed and waxed, and rudder packing changed. In addition, the shafts came all the way out, were inspected, put back in, shaft seals reconditioned and re-packed, engine alignment, and a host of other things related to the vibration issue.

I've been extremely happy with the yard I'm at - I can safely say this is the best yard experience I've had in 20+ years of owning boats. I'm a very discerning, detail oriented, picky customer - I don't like other people working on my boat. These guys have been just like working with myself, and I can't say enough good things about them.

You can click the photo below to see more - I've been keeping track of the progress on Instagram, and will eventually write up a short article here too.

Engine and power dashboards

Engine and power dashboards
I have discussed my weather dashboard before in Real-time weather from the boat, but I have always wanted more visibility into other areas. I have a couple of new dashboards for engine performance and the electrical system.

Problems with T-Mobile voice+data plans and Peplink CAT18

Problems with T-Mobile voice+data plans and Peplink CAT18
T-Mobile have apparently blocked the T-Mobile One lines that have both data and voice from using a Peplink CAT18 router with the Telit LM960 modem.
